SoCal Long Range Hunter match in Piru, Jun 20. Overall win.

NRL Hunter is a form of competition I’ve been wanting to shoot for quite some time, but one that does it’s best to be just out of reach of what I’m able to devote time or resources to. Luckily the idea behind the format is becoming more popular and single-day “outlaw” matches are popping up including one in Piru. The way the divisions were laid out allowed me to bring my PRS rifle, stages were blind and 4 minutes long, and all targets had to be found, ranged, and engaged on the clock using an NRL 2-1 scoring system (2 points for 1st round impact, 1 point for 2nd round impact). After the Dual Platform Sniper Challenge win I felt somewhat confident going into this one on one of my home ranges, and threw my Maztech rangefinder on the rifle for some added insurance. Even being familiar with the range and target layouts, some took a bit to find/organize and the scoring system definitely forced me to focus on quick and efficient target finding/ranging/data collection so that I had more time on the rifle to make sure that first round on target counted. In the end I walked away with a win on a thinner than I’d like margin of one single point, but took away important lessons for the next one.
