Winchester Canyon Gun Club Steel Challenge, 1st Overall

An unexpected block of free time meant I could just stay at the range after some rifle zeroing to shoot the Steel Challenge match at my local range. This match is inspired by the sanctioned Steel Challenge, with only 3 stages, and 3 strings of fire on each stage. The worst score of each stage gets dropped, which was a good thing because on my first stage I was gifted a gun breakage with the bottom lugs of my Atlas barrel shearing clean off. Luckily a very generous shooter with a 2011 in my squad let me use his pistol to finish the event and I earned 1st overall by about 5 total seconds. I was pleased to see more VERY new shooters at this particular event than I can remember seeing at almost any other, however the way this event is run makes it a perfect place for newer shooters to get started in pistol competition.
